+ Me istuimme kahden, ma käännyin Lucian puoleen,
+ Suli sävelten mainingeissa mielemme jää,
+ ja rintaani vasten painui raueten huoleen
+ Desdemonan tuskia tunteva lapsen pää.

+ Seurata tahtoa vailla tunteen leijaa,
+ tuutuna tuulen, mi kultatähkiä heijaa,
+ sielun varjona varrella elämän retken
+ ikuistaa haave heljä hukkuvan hetken,
+ rakastaa totta ja totuuden kauneus näyttää;
+ neronsa jylhiä käskyjä kuulla ja täyttää
+ runoilijan tehtävä on: siks voi hän vaihtaa
+ riemuksi murheen, muuttaa katseen mi kaihtaa,
+ tähdeksi taideluoman herkän ja aran,
+ helmeksi kyynelparan.
+ Tään hän on tulkki untensa uskonnon,
+ toivonsa ainut, onnensa korkein se on!

+ lien kiertotähtenä käymähän luotu...
+ Mun lähteä täytyy, lemmikki pieni,
+ vaikk' outo ja orpo on tieni.

+ Niin raskas on lähteä luotasi, kulta,
+ ja lohdutukseni ainoa tää:
+ sain kerran juoda sun huultesi tulta
+ ja parmahillasi levähtää,
+ käsivartemme kerran toisiaan kauloi

+KATKELMA RUNOELMASTA "ELOKUUN Yö"

+ Viel' lintukin liverrellen liitää ilmojen pieltä,
+ vaikk' laulupuunsa on poissa ja tuulet tupansa kaas,
+ ja kasteruusu, mi kuihtuu uuden, kaunihin tieltä,
+ ei tuosta katkaisijalleen kanna katkeraa mieltä:
+ se päivän kukki ja valmis on yöhön taas.
+
+ Ah, alla heiluvan heinän ja uhkuvan hedelmätarhain
+ ijät uinuu äänetön, kalpea kalmistomaa!
+ Mut kuolottomuutta me kurkoitamme myöhään ja varhain,
+ vaikk' turha on kamppaus tuo ja elämänviisaus parhain:
+ vain kärsiä paljon ja paljon unhoittaa.
+
+ Kova kallion pintakin kätkee, tuhkaks kallehin muuttuu,
