-sisähuoneisiin. Vasemmalla ikkuna. Näyttämöllä ahdinkoon asti
-huonekaluja, seinillä ja seinän vieressäkin nojallaan tauluja, eräällä
-pöydällä pahvikoteloita suuri kasa, kangaskääröjä tuoleilla. Koko huone
-tekee varastohuoneen vaikutuksen. Ikkunan luona matala puinen laatikko,
-sen päällä pöytä muodostaen siten jonkinmoisen puhujalavan.

-1:NEN KOHTAUS
-
-    Veikkanen. Anna.
-
-_Veikkanen_ (noin 40 vuotias näyttelijä. Naama sileäksi ajeltu. Hän on
-hyvin vilkas ja hyvin puuhaileva. Kuljettaen suurta rullalla olevaa
-mattoa). Minne minä tämän panen?
-
-_Anna_ (laiha, hiukan keikaillen puettu nainen). Pane tuonne nurkkaan
-pystyyn.
-
-_Veikkanen_. Se olisi oikeastaan avattava, onhan se melkein uuden
-näköinen. Kenen se on ollut, tiedätkö?
-
-_Anna_. Erään Tankka nimisen sosialistin.
-
-_Veikkanen_. Eduskuntalaisenko?
-
-_Anna_. Niin. Hän oli siinä hajoitetussa eduskunnassa. Minä kuulin,
-että hän luuli tulevansa valituksi uudestaan ja oli sen vuoksi
-vuokrannut ja kalustanut itselleen huoneet oikein hienosti. Häntä ei
-valittukaan, ja silloin antoi hän myydä tavaransa huutokauppakamarissa.

-_Veikkanen_. Kun ostajia tulee, niin elä vain mainitse sitä. Porvarit
-eivät ostaisi sosialistin tavaroita. Voi sitä luokkavihaa! Sitä
-luokkavihaa! Muistatko sitä viheriäpäällistä huonekalustoa, jonka eräs
-juristi osti meiltä ja toi sitten takaisin, kun kuuli sen olleen erään
-suomettarelaisen opettajan? Minä koetin vakuuttaa hänen erehtyneen,
-mutta eräs hänen tuttavansa tunsi ne. Hän oli ollut tuon opettajan
-luona vaatimassa häntä tilille jostain sanomalehtikirjoituksesta. Ja
-silloin oli hän sikaarillaan erehdyksestä polttanut reijän tuolin
-kankaaseen. Hän näki tuon reijän, tunsi huonekalut ja sekin kauppa
-purettiin. Kaikeksi onneksi eräs suometarlainen osti ne ja maksoi hyvän
-hinnan. Sitä puoluevihaa! Sitä puoluevihaa!

-_Anna_. Elä sanokaan muuta. Kuinkahan kauvan sinä voit jatkaa näitä
-lausuntakursseja eduskunnan jäsenille, ennenkuin niistäkin tehdään
-puoluekysymys.

-_Veikkanen_. Sen suhteen olen aivan rauhallinen. Ilman näitä ei tulla
-toimeen. Koko eduskunta tarvitsee lausunnon opetusta.
-
-_Anna_. Mutta kun teitä opettajia on niin monta. Tiedätkö, paljoko
-Gråbergillä on oppilaita?
-
-_Veikkanen_. Hyvin vähän, kuulin minä.
-
-_Anna_. Onhan hän niin kuuluisa näyttelijä. Sepä kummaa, ettei hän ole
-saanut sen enempää suosiota.

-_Veikkanen_. Hän on traagillinen näyttelijä. Traagillinen näyttelijä!
-Mutta minä olen koomillinen, minä, ja koomillinen näyttelijä vain
-kelpaa eduskuntalaisten opettajaksi. Ja onhan minulla sitten näiden
-huutokauppatavaroitten kauppa. Monet tulevat kurssille ja ostavat
-samalla. Moni ostaja taas ottaa kurssiin osaa.
-
-_Anna_. Minun täytyy mennä. Joudatko sinä jäämään koko illaksi kotia?
-Onko sinulla tänään harjoitusta teatterilla?
-
-_Veikkanen_. Ei ole.
-
-_Anna_. Onko siellä taas laulunäytelmän harjoitus?
-
-_Veikkanen_. On. Ja kun en minä osaa vähääkään laulaa, kun teatteri
-näyttelee yksinomaan kassaa varten laulukappaleita, niin eihän minua
-siellä tarvita.
-
-_Anna_. Niin, kyllä teatteri rahaa ansaitsee, mutta maksaa huonot
-palkat. Oletko jo puhunut palkankoroituksesta ensi vuodeksi?
-
-_Veikkanen_. Olen.
-
-_Anna_. Ja mitä johtaja sanoi?
-
-_Veikkanen_. Että minä saan, sillä tulot näyttävät tänä vuonna kohoavan
-hyvin suuriksi.
-
-_Anna_. Kyllä sinä oletkin ansainnut koroituksen. Kuinka me olemme
-saaneet hommata lisätäksemme tulojamme. Ne lapset, ne lapset, ne
-tulevat niin kalliiksi.
-
-_Veikkanen_. Olemmehan me yrittäneet jos jotain. Se viinikauppa ei
-kannattanut.
-
-_Anna_. Oliko se ihme, kun teatterilaiset kävivät niin usein meillä
-vieraissa.
-
-_Veikkanen_. Ei tavarain välitysliikekään. Se oli sinun hommaasi.
-
-_Anna_. Tavarat pahenivat, kun ei ollut kellaria, missä ne olisi
-säilyttänyt. Ja sitten sinä söit itse siihen aikaan liian paljon.

-_Veikkanen_. Kun oli ruokaa kotona, niin täytyihän syödä, muuten
-olisivat kaikki pahentuneet.
-
-_Anna_. Jumalan kiitos, tämä huutokauppatavarain myynti on edullinen.
-Liian ahdasta täällä kyllä on, ja aina täytyy ostaa lisää, jotta
-varasto olisi monipuolisempi.
-
-_Veikkanen_. Ai niin, tänään myydään sen eronneen senaattorin
-tavaroita. Sinä menet sinne?
-
-_Anna_. Tietysti.
-
-_Veikkanen_. Kuka kuiskaa edusmiehille? Minulla on kello viideltä tunti
-neljän eduskuntalaisen kanssa. Heillä on istunto kello kuudelta ja he
-tahtovat sitä ennen lukea luonani.

-_Anna_. Etkö voi tulla toimeen ilman kuiskaajaa? Enhän minä voi olla
-poissa senaattorin huutokaupasta.
-
-_Veikkanen_. Hm. Pitäähän koettaa. Osaavathan eduskuntalaiset yleensä
-hyvin läksynsä, sen olen huomannut. Se esitystapa heillä vain kaipaa
-parannusta. Siirretään nyt puhujalava paikoilleen. (Nostavat yhdessä
-puhujalavan näyttämön vasemmalle etualalle). Kas niin.

-_Anna_. Nyt minun täytyy jo lähteä huutokauppakamariin, jotta saan
-hyvän paikan.

-_Veikkanen_. Jos siellä myydään senaattorin vaatteitakin, niin osta
-hänen hattunsa minulle. Sellaista voi aina tarvita näyttämöllä.

-_Anna_. Kyllä.

-_Veikkanen_. Elä suotta tarjoa liian paljoa. Kyllä minä ehdin
-myöhemminkin saada, eroaahan nykyaikaan senaattoreja niin usein. Mutta
-jos huokealla saat, niin osta silloin.

-_Anna_. Jos siellä on salkkuja, niin tahdotko sellaisenkin?
-
-_Veikkanen_. Ota vaan, jos ei nouse liian korkealle.

-_Anna_. Sellaista sinä voisit tarvita. Kun minä näen, millaisia hölmöjä
-useimmat niistä ovat, jotka käyvät täällä lausumassa, niin olen
-uneksinut, että sinäkin kerran tulisit eduskuntaan.

-_Veikkanen_. Elä puhu hulluja.

-_Anna_. Ajattelehan asiaa. Eduskunnassa ei kenelläkään saa olla omaa
-mielipidettään, ei muuta kuin valitsijoitten mielipide.

-_Veikkanen_. No niin?

-_Anna_. No niin! Voisihan sinullakin olla valitsijoiden mielipide. Sinä
-puhuisit niinkuin he tahtovat. Ja kyllä sinä aina puhua osaat,
-varsinkin kun ei tarvitsisi itse ajatella mitään. Ja sitten sinulla
-olisi se etu, että sinä osaisit esiintyä, jota eivät nämät osaa.

-_Veikkanen_. No, esiintymisen suhteen olisin minä aivan varma.
-
-_Anna_. Koko eduskunta toimii ja puhuu kansaa varten.

-_Veikkanen_. Se on totta.

-_Anna_. Ja kansaa edustaa lehteri.

-_Veikkanen_. Aivan oikein.

-_Anna_. Siis, mikä on sen selvempää, kuin että sinä, joka osaat
-esiintyä juuri lehtereille, tulisit sinne.

-_Veikkanen_. Tuo ajatus on hyvin rohkea.

-_Anna_. Mutta aivan johdonmukainen. Usko minua, siihen se kuitenkin
-lopulta menee.

-_Veikkanen_. Jospa se menisi siihen. Se olisi ihanaa. Saada puhua, aina
-puhua ja saada sitten kaikki puheensa painetuiksi. Ja saada siitä
-kaikesta 15 markkaa päivässä palkkaa.

-_Anna_. Sinun täytyisi jo ajoissa valita itsellesi joku puolue. Mutta
-mikä?

-_Veikkanen_. Niin, mikä? Kaikkihan ne ovat yhtä hyviä.

-_Anna_. Nyt ne jo tulevat. Minä menen avaamaan. (Menee eteiseen. Kuuluu

-tohtori. Ikävä kyllä rouvani on estetty olemasta läsnä, hän läksi
-huutokauppakamariin. Siellä myydään erään eronneen senaattorin

-_Hirvenrinta_. Sanokaa erotetun, sillä tuo eroaminen oli kaikkea muuta
-kuin vapaaehtoista.

-nyt ei ole aikaa. Täysi-istunto alkaa kello kuudelta ja minä tahtoisin
-sitä ennen hiukan harjoittaa.

-_Veikkanen_. Kohta, kohta. Kunhan ensin kaikki tulevat.

-_Hirvenrinta_. Tuleeko tänne muitakin kuin me?

-_Wahlbom_. Onko nyt jokin yhteisharjoitus?

-_Veikkanen_. On tavallaan. Minä tahdoin saada jotain kokonaista aikaan,

-_Veikkanen_. Se on tullut liiallisesta puhumisesta, olenhan minä sen jo
-sanonut.

-_Wahlbom_. Kyllä minä sen tiedän, mutta jollen puhuisi paljoa, niin
-enhän minä olisi eduskuntalainen.

-_Veikkanen_. Se on totta. Ehkä me saamme sen sopivalla opetuksella
-korjautumaan.

-_Hlrvenrinta_. Niitä toisia ei kuulu. Emmekö voisi aloittaa ilman
-heitä? Jos me vielä odotamme, niin aika tulee liian lyhyeksi.

-_Veikkanen_. Aloittakaamme vaan. Kuka puhuu ensin?

-_Wahlbom_. Minä.

-_Hlrvenrinta_. Suometarlainen puolue on suurempi.

-_Wahlbom_. Mutta nuorsuomalaiset käyttävät enemmän puheenvuoroja, siis
-nyt myöskin. (Nousee puhujalavalle).

-_Veikkanen_. Astukaa arvokkaammin. Luokaa ensin katse yli koko
-eduskunnan.

-_Wahlbom_. (Tekee niin). Ainoa puolue tässä maassa, joka todella on
-katsonut koko kansan parasta, on perustuslaillinen puolue.

-_Veikkanen_. Elkää puhuko niin kovaa, äänenne ei kestä sitä.

-_Wahlbom_. Kaiken valtiollisen toiminnan pohjana täytyy olla laki.

-_Veikkanen_. Laki-sanalla käsi ylös ja kaksi sormea pystyyn. Näin.

-kuulijoita, niin joutuu ihan hassuksi, jos pitäis puhua. Ja kun minua

-_Emäntä_. Virskun, nauran aina kun minä pelkään. Ja tänään täytyy minun
-mennä sinne lavan päälle. Kyllä minä siältä paikaltani vielä tohrin
-puhua, mutta siältä lavalta, voi, herra jestas. Mitääs se meirän
-Eemelikin siellä kotona sanos, jos minä en puhu hyvin. Kyllä teirän,
-herra Veikkanen, nyt pitää fyörätä minua.

-_Emäntä_ (ottaa puheen taskustaan). Tossa se on. Kas, kyllä minä sen
-tikkerperiasian päälle ymmärrän. Meillä on siällä kotona niin paljo
-puskia, mutta ei se ole helppo asia panna se paperille. Tossa se nyt
-on. Sanoo nyt, kun menen ulos asiasta. Vaikka kyllä minä osaan.
