+en takaa, pikku kukkanen

+ja maineeseen on kaiho sen.

+Mä epäilen, jos satakieli
+tunteistaan laulaa, eikö vaan
+viserrä, itke, liioittele
+se yksin tottumuksestaan.

+Pois totuus pakenet jo maasta
+ja uskollisuus häviät. --

+kuin muinen, nekin pettävät.

+Sä laitoit taivaasta santarmin,
+mi kantoi miekkaa vihan,
+mun paratiisista hääti pois,
+se julma, armotta ihan.

+Nyt vaimoineni mä vaellan
+ja etsin eloa uutta.
+Toki nautin jo tiedon hedelmää,
+sit' et taida sä enää muuttaa.

+sun kääpiökasvusi kurjan.

+SALAISUUS.
+

+Ei huokailla, on silmä kuiva
+ja nauretaan -- ei naurua.
+Ei katsehet ja kasvoin sävy
+salaisuuttamme ilmoita.

+Sen mykkä tuska rintahamme
+luo pohjatonta polttoaan.
+Ja vaikka sydän riehuu, huutaa,
+suu vaiti-oloin suljetaan.

+Sä kysy kehtolapsoselta
+tai käänny puoleen vainajain.
+Ne ehkä sulle ilmaisevat,
+mit alati salata sain.

+YÖVARTIJAN TULO PARIISIIN.

+"Kuu vartija öinen, sä nopsajalka,
+miks' kasvojas kattaa hämmästys.
+Rakas maani, kuinka se voida alkaa
+isänmaani, tuo toki tervehdys".

+Hyvin vallan! Rehottaa siunaus, lepo,
+siveätä on majojen paimennus.
+Käy rauhassa, taatusti edistyshepo,
+ja varmaa Saksan on vaurastus.

+Ei loista se pinnalta Ranskan malliin,
+missä vapaus elolle muotoja loi.
+Kas Saksan mies se rintansa valliin
+tuon vapaustuntehen kammitsoi.
+
+Ja Kölnin kirkkoa korjaellaan
+se ansio hohenzollien vaan.
+Habsburg'ista apua lahjoitellaan,
+suo Wittelbach lasit ikkunaan.

+Ja perustuslaki, se vapausmuuri
+on luvattu, sana on panttina jo,
+ihan keisarisana, se aarre on suuri,
+kuin Reinissä tarujen aarteisto.

+Kanossassa eessä linnan
+keisari on Saksan Henrik
+murhemekoin, paljasjaloin.
+-- Yö on sateinen ja kylmä.

+Ikkunasta ylhäält' tähyy
+kaksi haamua, ja kuuhut
+Gregorion kaljuun päähän,
+Mathildinkin[1] rintaan paistaa.
+
+Henrik kalvain huulinensa
+isämeitää mutiseepi.
+Mutta keisarrinnassansa
+salaa kiroo, salaa lausuu:

+"Kaukana mun Saksassani
+kohoavat lujat vuoret,
+niiden salakomeroissa
+kasvaa rauta sotapiiluun.
+

+ylenevät tammimetsät,

+[1] Paavi Gregorius saatuaan kuulla Henrik IV tulevan pyytämään vapautta
+pannajulistuksesta, meni maakreivitär Mathildin linnaan Canossaan, jonka
+edustalla Henrikin paljasjaloin 3 vuorokautta katuvana täytyi seistä.

+soikoon vapauslaulelos'
+mielet kaikki valtaellen,
+töihin suuriin innostellen
+marseljeesihymnin tavoin.

+Heitä Werther-runot, häilät,
+jotka Lotalle[1] vain soi.
+Ajan kellon lyönti haasta
+kansallesi, nosta maasta
+tikarit ja terässäilät!

+Heitä huilun soitto. Turhaa
+kaikk' on ihantelut nyt.
+Tykin, pasuunan soi lailla,
+kanuunana kulje mailla,
+ryski, jyrise ja murhaa.

+Tuohon suuntaan laadi runo,

+Vapaus, Saksan rämeikössä,
+ellös kaahlo jaloin paljain,
+varustele itses valjain,
+sukat, saappaat etsiös sä.

+Syvään pääsi suojaks paina
+karvalakki tiivisvilla,
+että talven tienohilla
+säästyy korvalehtes aina.
+
+Saatpa kyllin ruokaa veikko,
+vastaisuutta kaikki lupaa,
+toki karta tyhmää hupaa,
+niihin kietoo ajan peikko.
+
+Kapinoiva ei sun sovi
+olla, aina kunnioita
+porvareita, mahtajoita,
+herroja -- se onneen ovi.
+

+
+VAROITUS.
+
+
+Ystävä sun kirjas moiset,
+joita laadit turmaan vie sun.
+Rauhaa, mainetta jos mielit,
+taivu samaan, mihin toiset.
+
+Neuvonut en sua konsaan
+kansalle noin haastamahan
+papeista ja valtijaista,
+saatat itses' perin ansaan.
+
+Kadotus on tulos työskin. --
+Ruhtinaill' on kädet pitkät,
+papeilla taas kieli pitkä. --
+Kansan korva pitkä myöskin.
+

+KIINAN KEISARI.
+
+
+Isä mun oli kaappinaukkaaja,
+hän kohtuutta seurata koki.
+Mä ryyppyni ryyppään rajoitta
+ja keisari suur' olen toki.

+Tää juoma on taikuri tenhoisa
+ja mieleeni vaikuttaa se,
+ens' ryypystä Kiina on mahtava,
+kukoistuksehen puhkeaa se.

+Ja valtakuntani keskus tää
+ihan kukkaistarhan on lainen.
+Olen itse keisari kruunupää,
+saa rouvani prinssin vainen.
+
+Ylivuotava täällä on runsaus,
+tulee potevat tervehiks' silleen.
+Hovimestari, kelpo Konfusius
+saa ällinsä kirkkaimmilleen.

+Sotilaiden karkea limppukin

+me perustuslakia, pyövelin
+ja pamppua tarvitsemme.

+Askeetit joskin kielteli
+pois viiniryypyn maukkaan,
+en tottele, valtakuntani

+että toinen uskalikko

+Viel' on kuin lapsi Saksanmaa,
